Wisdom Teeth Removal and Tooth Extractions

Patients dealing with tooth pain around the wisdom teeth or other teeth may need to undergo a tooth extraction. Dr. Michael Rose only performs tooth extractions when absolutely necessary and will do everything he can to preserve the natural tooth. Many patients need to have wisdom teeth removed to improve overall dental health — even if the wisdom teeth aren’t causing problems. Dr. Rose has been performing tooth extractions and other tooth preservation procedures for over 40 years so you know you’re in good hands.

Reasons to Have Wisdom Teeth Removed

Adults do not need their wisdom teeth so if these teeth have the potential for infection, crowding or pain, Dr. Rose may recommend removing them. During all of our procedures we do everything we can to ensure it is as painless as possible, and comfortable for you. Common reasons to have wisdom teeth removed include:

  • Potential crowding
  • Partial eruptions
  • Impacted teeth
  • Gum disease
  • Crooked or misshapen teeth affecting the bite

Reasons to Have Teeth Extracted

Persistent tooth pain is one of the most common reasons to have teeth extracted. Many patients with tooth pain have an infected tooth that can’t be fixed with a root canal or other procedures. For most, having the tooth removed is the best way to finally get relief and maintain good oral health. Some of the reasons to have teeth extracted:

  • Baby teeth causing problems
  • Trauma to the mouth
  • Dislodged teeth
  • Excessive tooth decay
  • Preparation for dental implants
  • Excessive damage from gum disease

Socket Preservation after Tooth Extraction

Missing just one tooth can cause bone loss and lead to the shifting of surrounding teeth, so we often recommend replacing an extracted tooth with a dental implant. If you are not ready to receive an implant immediately following a tooth extraction, you can undergo a socket preservation procedure. This will help preserve the area where the tooth was removed and help prevent bone loss, so a dental implant can be more successfully placed down the road. During a personalized consultation with Dr. Rose we can discuss all of your options.
